I have been a self employed cake maker with my own business for 3 years now, I’m fully registered and insured with a 5* food hygiene rating and I’ve made nearing 300 cakes alone! (Not including other bakes I do, such as brownies, cupcakes, biscuits, cookies etc)

Baking is not only my career but it’s my hobby and my passion too, and I’m so lucky to be able to live out my dream as a cake maker whilst being a stay at home mum to my two beautiful daughters (aged 8 months and 2 and a half years)! – now that’s what I call having my hands full!

When I was little, my mum was a nurse and used to work night shifts, so I often went to my nan and grandads overnight. The two things I would ask for every single time I went there was, A. can we make some cupcakes?, and B. Can we have spaghetti bolognese for dinner? I loved making cupcakes with my nanny den, and like all children, my favourite part was eating the vanilla buttercream off of the spoon after! So I really have always loved baking, and it runs in the family since my other nan was actually also a cake maker back in the day!

In 2020, during lockdown, I began baking my, now very popular, triple chocolate brownies for me and my now husband. The more I baked the more I enjoyed it (and the taste testing!), and one day I ended up baking myself a vanilla, fondant covered 8″ cake, (just because I really fancied one!), since I thought it was potentially slightly on the greedy side to eat that to ourselves, we ended up taking it round to my mother in laws to share! We all enjoyed it for dessert and my in laws were raving about it! From there, they asked me to make some cupcakes for my husband’s, nan’s 90th birthday, my brother and sister started asking for cakes for their birthdays and my husbands cousin even asked me for a wedding cake and this is when the cake maker in colchester was born! 

Now, my business has been running for about 3 years but I’ve been baking for longer than that. I have made over 300 cakes, and couldn’t even count the amount of cupcakes, brownies, cookies, biscuits etc I’ve made – the list and amounts are endless! I am so incredibly thankful and lucky to be able to now call myself a Cake Maker, the best happy accident I ever fell into and I love it!
